Ear Diseases

Ayurveda offers treatments for ear pain, inflammation, and related issues

Ear Diseases { कर्ण रोगाः }

KarnaRoga, in Ayurveda, is caused by one of four imbalances: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The key symptoms of vata aggravation include pain with or without faulty sounds like Ear Pain [कर्णसुला Karnasula }, Ringing in the ears [कर्णप्राणादः Karnapranada], deafness [बधिर्यः Badhirya], and whistling sound in the ears [कर्णक स्वेदा Karnaksveda].

The four inflammatory ear disorders caused by aggravated pitta dosha are burning pain with a yellow discharge [ कर्णविद्राधि Karnavidradhi], suppuration of the eardrum [ कर्णपाकः Karnapaka], water in the ear or an abscess [कर्णश्रवः Karnasrava], and smelly discharge with or without pain [पुतिकर्णः Putikarna].

The three disorders caused by aggravated Kapha dosha are itching caused by the accumulation of kapha in the ear [कर्णकाण्डु Karnakandu], excess ear wax that has dried and stuck [कर्णवर्चः Karnavarca] and head pain caused by ear wax liquefied and moving into the nasal passages [कर्णप्रतिनहा Karnapratinaha].

Note: Modern Medicine focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases, while in Ayurveda, the treatment for the same disease can differ significantly for each person, because Ayurveda focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit by considering the individual’s constitution (Prakriti), imbalances (Vikriti), and the interrelationship between the body and the environment hence Ayurveda, the treatment for the same disease can vary for different individuals.
